We drove to Kansas City just ahead of the snow storm, hoping to start a restful holiday— instead, Kivrin started throwing up on Christmas Eve with a 24 hour stomach bug! We still braved the Christmas Eve service at Dan’s parents’ church, and made it back to their house safely in the heavy snow.

Christmas Morning, Santa brought two bags of presents for Kivrin to open! One had new Playmobil  trucks and cars and the other bag had a new baby doll. Thankfully, she threw up for the last time on Christmas morning in between opening her Santa presents and was her cheerful self the rest of the day.

On Christmas Day, Kivrin’s cousin Thomas and her Uncle Jon and Aunt Sara came over to celebrate. Kivrin and Thomas had a blast playing together, although since they are both under 2 years old, sharing their new Christmas toys was not at the top of their list of things to do… The 6 grown-ups to 2 toddlers ratio worked out just about right to keep the peace!

Thanksgiving visit to Nana’s house means flying Uncle Lee’s helicopters around the living room. Note the phone in Kivrin’s hand here, we had to get Nana’s bedroom handset for her, so that she would leave the other telephone alone.

Kivrin L-O-V-E-S to ride on Uncle Jim’s special John Deere tractor. She can’t reach the pedals, or the ground, but she likes to be pushed all around the driveway.

easter-bunny-3

I crocheted Kivrin an Easter bunny for her first Easter morning. She liked to chew on its ears.

We got up early on Easter to be at the Easter breakfast at Dan’s parent’s church in Kansas City by 9am. Kivrin cooperated at first, then had a huge messy diaper that we had to stop to change at the Lawrence service area, so she got dressed in her Easter outfit in the car. She even posed for a picture!

Taking pictures of toddlers together is impossible! They don’t follow directions, and they keep crawling off to do other things. Even with 6 adults trying to get their attention, these were the best shots we could get of Thomas and Kivrin together.

Easter is certainly more exciting with two babies!

family-chaos

This picture only conveys the chaos a little bit. Notice how both kids have open mouths, then imagine them both shouting/singing/talking/babbling. Now imagine it again but louder. And put everyone in motion. Or in pursuit of the same toy.

A verbal snapshot of Kivrin’s life

  • Kivrin can count to ten! And she does. Frequently! 12 years ago
  • Later, no thank you, now, one more time, almost done, excuse me, please. All powerful words from the mouth of a toddler... 12 years ago
  • Kivrin is two years old today! Happy Birthday baby girl, we are so impressed and amazed by the person you are growing up to be! 12 years ago
  • Toddler logic: Blowing on the outside air on a sweltering day will cool it off enough that mommy will agree it's not too hot for a walk. 12 years ago
  • Toddler logic: Kivrin skinned her knee, therefore her baby doll needs a bandaid. 12 years ago
  • Kivrin switched from the terse "hi" on her play phone to a more elaborate "ay-yo" hello style greeting. Verbal skills increasing daily!!! 12 years ago
  • This morning Kivrin choked on a cracker and made a mess of her shirt/carseat on the way to school. She named the incident her "big cough." 12 years ago

  • March 14, 2009--St. Pat's Parade
One Saturday while I was working, Aaron took the girls downtown to see the St. Patrick's Day Parade. They both seemed to enjoy it and have been playing with the beaded necklaces they received ever since. Addison loves looking at all the balloons!
